2016 has been an amazing year of LEARNING.
My trips are much reduced this year compared to a few years ago. I can assure you that my passion for travel has not diminished, not even an iota, but work circumstances have forced me to scale down the number of trips. As a result, I had to learn not to have FOMO on trips – Fear of Missing Out – but be selective in terms of when and where I wanted to go.
During the times that I stayed put at home, I was busy learning…learning the ropes of blogging – going back to the fundamentals, understanding the technicalities, and engaging more with readers on social media. I self-hosted my blog after 2.5 years of blogging, and thanks to you, dear readers, for having faith in me, my 6-month old new website is going well.
And I’m still learning, grappling with some of the technical issues in my website – many thanks to those who gave me feedback about those errors, I really appreciate it. The issues/errors are now escalated to the experts and though it’s put on hold during this Christmas holidays but I’m confident that things will work out in time for the New Year 🙂
The biggest learning of all was when I attended my first travel bloggers conference in the Philippines – the Travel Bloggers Exchange (TBEX) Conference (Asia). I’d thought I knew a lot about blogging during this past 3 years but attending the breakout sessions, speed-networking and getting to know other travel bloggers at TBEX made me realise that the world of travel blogging will always be a learning process – a process where we will continue to embark on new digital marketing trends and to improve in ways in which we connect with brands, our readers and fellow travel bloggers.
Having said all that, I personally feel that the business of blogging will not happen if it wasn’t for content i.e. the documentation of travels. And content is something which I can guarantee you any time any day without any technical glitch 😉 because it is travelling and writing about my travels that got me started with this blog. It isn’t the case of I travel for the blog but I blog because of my passion – travel.
Wrapping up my year of Travelling + Learning, here are photos from my travels in 2016:
End January – early February: Chiang Mai
March: Glamping in Janda Baik
April: Batik Painting at National Museum
July: Redang Island
And what do we have in store for 2017? Well, there will be new projects and features coming up in my website, and new travel adventures, of course 😉
In the meantime, here’s wishing all of you MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
