When we travel, most of us spend time sightseeing throughout the day, only to return to the hotel in the evening. Hence, we don’t usually get the chance to peruse most of the hotel facilities such as the bar, spa, swimming pool and gym. As such, do we really need all the fancy trappings that we find in a luxury hotel? Not really.
Instead, what we want is a clean room, comfortable bed, hot shower, working air-conditioning, fast speed WIFI, and an overall good service. So, when I was visiting South Delhi in November 2017, Bloom Hotel was what I wanted.
Bloom Hotel is a boutique business hotel group that has several establishments in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Bangalore and Goa. The hotels in Delhi are located close to the New Delhi Railway Station and South Delhi. I chose to stay at the hotel in South Delhi because majority of the historical sites and shopping places are located in South Delhi and most of my friends live in the area.
The Bloom Hotel in South Delhi is called Bloomrooms on Link Road, close to Defence Colony flyover and opposite Jangpura metro station. The hotel has thirty-nine rooms spread over three floors where 60% of its guests are business travellers. It is a cosy and compact accommodation, thus suitable for solo travellers as well. Unlike the standard façade of a business hotel, Bloom Hotel is cheery and bright especially the lemon yellow colour which is their trademark colour on windows and furniture.
I stayed in a Standard Queen room comprising a queen-sized bed, working desk, flat-screen TV, a few hangers hung above a small vanity table, a wash basin and en suite bathroom. Everything was immaculately clean and worked perfectly. I had spent some time working at the desk, and had observed that the room has several power sockets, therefore convenient for travellers who have at least three devices to charge at any given time.
Note that there is no coffee/tea facility in the room but is available on the staircase landing on each floor. Alternatively, you can have a good cuppa at Café Amichi located at the hotel compound. Café Amichi is where you have your meals there including breakfast. The breakfast selection is all right but the meals are a tad expensive. Unfortunately, there are no eateries within walking distance of the hotel, as such, I had to eat at the café. Above the café is the guest lounge where guests can chill out to watch TV, to read or to play board games.
In terms of public transportation, I hardly saw any auto-rickshaws outside of the hotel but there is a taxi stand nearby and Jangpura metro station is a ten-minute walk via the overhead bridge…and it is safe to walk to the metro station. With the extensive connectivity of Delhi Metro, it is so easy to get around in Delhi! Historical places such as Lodi Gardens, Humayun’s Tomb, Safdarjung Tomb, Qutub Minar, and shopping places such as Connaught, Lajpat Nagar and Khan Market are easily accessible with the metro.
Based on my two-night stay, here are the pros and cons of staying at Bloomrooms @Link Rd:
Great location in South Delhi and just a short walk to the metro station which makes it convenient for travellers to go sightseeing and shopping.
Room is clean and comfortable, strong water pressure in the shower and several power sockets available for charging.
Good customer service by staff.
The rooms might be too small for families, the size of the room is just nice for a couple or a solo traveller.
No restaurants, cafes and shops nearby, hence guests have to eat at Café Amichi which is slightly expensive.
Airport transfer is expensive costing INR950 as they are using a third-party vendor. It is much cheaper to hire a private cab which costs around INR500.
